The Director of Public Works is Dwain Bollman.

Dwain was born in Centerville, Iowa, and his parents moved to the Quad City area in 1950.  He attended Cody Elementary School in LeClaire through the 8th grade and graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1966.  He served 4 years in the United States Navy with 3 years as a 3rd Class Radarman aboard the USS Sterett DLG 31 (guided missile destroyer) that had the distinct privilege of being the only ship to shoot down a MIG fighter in the Viet Nam Conflict.  After returning back to the states in 1970 he worked in the maintenance department of a kitchen cabinet manufacturing company (Brammer’s) in Davenport until 1979.  He worked for Caterpillar in Mt. Joy before being hired by the City of Buffalo. In 1983 Buffalo built a new Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plant and he was hired as an assistant operator and part time worker for the Public Works Department.  Through the years he has acquired a Grade II Certificate in Wastewater, Grade II in Water Treatment and Grade III in Water Distribution.  He has also attained training in overhead distribution and linesman duties for use in the City’s Electrical Utility.  In 1994 he became the Public Works Director, the position he continues to hold today.  Dwain lives in Buffalo with his wife Leota.

Greg Shaw

 

Greg is the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.  He was born in Sterling, Illinois and after high school moved to Chicago for 3 years while attending Roosevelt University.  He left Chicago after being drafted into the Army for 2 years.  He married shortly after the military and have 4 grown children.

Greg has a Grade IV Wastewater License and a Grade II Water Treatment License.  Before coming to the City of Buffalo he worked for the City of Clinton Iowa at the wastewater treatment plant as an assistant maintenance operator.  He also worked for the City of Clinton as an equipment operator.  His hobbies include camping and trout fishing.
